Technology: 1953-2033?
Washington Post article on how life has changed.
After reading through this article, what would it be like if you lived back in 1953 or 1983 in terms of technology in your home? Post your COMMENT below in this blog section. Could you do your homework on a typewriter? Where is the World Wide Web? Imagine if you listened to music on a turntable style radio instead of your iPod? Where are the headphones? No cell phones? No texting?
Include in your post where you think technology, such as the ones mentioned in this timeline, will be in the year 2033? How old will you be? How will technology look in schools, at home and at work?

And, Or, Not...Boolean Search

What is Boolean Searching? To search Boolean style on the internet will help you find effective and credible sources for your subject matter.
When you search for something on the internet with a single term, you will most likely end up with many results to begin researching your topic.
By adding more related terms to your search you may also begin to narrow down what you end up finding for results which in the end, will help you find credible OR reliable sources.
For example: If you are interested in learning more about endangered birds try this Boolean Machine to see what happens when you type in your search box the words AND, OR, and NOT.
Who is George Boole?
George Boole (1815-1864) was an English mathematician and philosopher.
As the inventor of Boolean logic, which is the basis of modern digital computer logic, Boole is regarded as one of the founders of the field of computer science.

Podcasting and Web 2.0 Learning

Did you say Podcasting?
What is a Podcast anyway? A Podcast is the latest tool on the internet to deliver information. It is similar to that of a radio "broadcast". Listening to podcasts or watching videocasts either in the classroom or out of it is very easy and convenient to support students learning and sharing.
All you need is a computer and the Internet! Take a few minutes to better understand "Podcasts in Plain English".
Links about Podcasts for your podcast scavenger hunt research are listed on left sidebar of this page under the heading PODCASTS.
Are we working our way at DSMS towards integrating the future of learning understanding the educational tools and resources available? Tools such as Blogs, Podcasts and Wikis. Select this Teacher Tube link to see what students think of k-12 learning!
If we are on our way, then we are having our students experience skills for 21st Century Learning in Web 2.0. These skills will take them beyond their classroom experience and provide them with tools for life. Let's begin now, before the tools for Web 3.0 are a necessity. For more information please select this link to view the video.
Key Note Speaker, Wes Fryer, at MassCue (Massachusetts Computer Using Educators) November 2008 Conference references the "Keys to 21st Century Learning" on his Wiki space and podcast linked here! Listen to what he recommends!
